Read More	Floyd White, born September 11, 1882 in Mathews County, VA, the fourth son of Bennie and Bettie Wise White. Floyd was in the employ of G. S. Marchant for about eight years as "a most gentlemanly salesman", . This picture (left) was on an Expo pass to the Jamestown Tercentennial Exposition, 1607-1907. He was about 24 years old at the time. On the pass, Floyd is listed as bookkeeper for Military Cater. Co. The other picture is of Floyd, on the left, and older brother Howard, on the right. The brothers were very close. Floyd had served as his brother's best man when Howard married Anne Wilson White in October of 1906. Soon after the wedding, in January 1907, Floyd accepted a position in Atlanta, GA, probably with the above company, Military Cater. Co. He was taken ill with typhoid fever about March 19, 1908 and taken to a hospital, where he died on March 31. Howard went down to Atlanta immediately after hearing of Floyd's illness but arrived too late to be with him when he died. Howard then returned to Mathews and brought Floyd's body back for burial in the Gayle family burying ground across the creek at Edgewater. It was in Floyd's memory that Howard named his second son.
