Description	:	Frances was the second oldest child of Milton Richards and Jane Jackson. The family moved from Illinois to Fremont County, IA in 1845/1846. They settled in an area four miles south of Sidney called Pleasant Grove. They moved to Iowa a few months before Iowa became a state, three years before the organization of Fremont county and five years before the birth of Sidney. Read More	Frances was the second oldest child of Milton Richards and Jane Jackson. The family moved from Illinois to Fremont County, IA in 1845/1846. They settled in an area four miles south of Sidney called Pleasant Grove. They moved to Iowa a few months before Iowa became a state, three years before the organization of Fremont county and five years before the birth of Sidney. When Frances first saw Fremont County, the white settlers were few and the American Indian was still an inhabitant of southwest Iowa. Her father was the first clerk of the district court of Fremont County and for several terms court was held in his home. He helped to survey and lay out Fremont County and also helped to survey and lay out the town of Sidney. He mother named the town of Sidney in memory of Sidney, Ohio, where she lived before coming to Iowa. Her father was also a justice of the peace for years. Frances married Jacob H Stephens on 10 Feb 1861 and the home they built is where she lived until her death. Together they had 5 children: Luella Jane (Wilson), Alice (Ward), Milton, Dicey (Maffett), and Martin. Jacob preceded Frances in death in 1900. Frances died in 1921 at the age of 83 years 5 months.
