Description	:	Frank L. Craig, son of John Craig and Charlotte Cadwell Craig was born near Esbon, Jewell County, Kansas on December 18, 1894, and passed away at Wadsworth, Kansas on August 23, 1943. He grew to manhood in Esbon, receiving his education in the Esbon schools. In 1917 he was united in marriage with Lucille McMurray, and to this union five children were born. Craig, son of John Craig and Charlotte Cadwell Craig was born near Esbon, Jewell County, Kansas on December 18, 1894, and passed away at Wadsworth, Kansas on August 23, 1943. He grew to manhood in Esbon, receiving his education in the Esbon schools. In 1917 he was united in marriage with Lucille McMurray, and to this union five children were born. He was working for the Santa Fe Railway when the United States entered the first World War. He entered the army in June 1917 and was sent to Camp Funston for training. Being too light for infantry, he was transferred to the Signal Corps and sent to Fort Leavenworth, and four weeks later was sent to France with the A. E. F. Here he served in the 8th Field signal Battery and in the replacement in the 4th Division. On the first night of his service in Alsace-Lorraine he was overcome with chlorine gas and never fully recovered from its effects. He spent six months in the hospital, and later spent some time recovering in southern France. He was overseas eighteen months, coming back to the United States in February, 1919 and was discharged at Camp Funston in March 1919. After his return from the army he worked one year for the Farmers Union Store at Bellaire, Kansas, then one year for the Farmers Union Store at Bern, and later was employed for four years in the H. G. Whittle store. In 1925 when the rural route of Bern community was divided into two routes, Mr. Craig was appointed rural carrier for Route No. 2, and when the routes were again consolidated after the retirement of David Lehman, Mr. Craig served both routes, until about two years ago when his health began to fail. He would carry the mail whenever it was possible for him to do so, but spent much time in the hospital, and soon was forced to retire. Frank Craig was a friend to everyone on his route and his willingness to help his fellowmen was one of his chief characteristics . He made a trip to Texas and to California, hoping to find a climate that would benefit his health. but in July of this year he entered the Veterans Hospital at Wadsworth. His condition was serious and he was placed in an oxygen tent until until two days before his death. He passed away about 12:30 A.M. Monday. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Mr. Craig was an active member of Charles Fankhauser Post No. 326 of The American Legion. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lucille Craig, five children, Mrs. Loren Riggs of Amity, Mo.;Mrs. Harold Hylton and Miss Mildred Craig of Riverside, Calif.; Frank Jr. and Emma of the home; three grandchildren, Alvina Riggs, Harold Hylton Jr. and Darlene Gloria Hylton; one brother, Robert Craig, who is overseas in the armed forces, and an aunt, Mrs. Ida Caldwell of Rockford, Ill. A large crowd attended the military funeral services, which were held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Evangelical church, conducted by the Rev. Richard of Seneca.
