Frank came with his parents from West Virginia in 1912, at the age if 15. They settled on a farm near Mayetta, Kansas. As a young man he started farming near DuBois. On December 18, 1919 he was united in marriage to Eva Callam of DuBois. To this union were born three sons and one daughter: Herbert Marteney of Seneca, Kans.; Fred Marteney of Bern; Arthur (Joe) Marteney of Sabetha, and Mrs. Opal Gugelman of Bern. A foster niece, Donna Turner, Bern, made her home with them for a number of years. They continued farming until retiring in 1961 when they moved to DuBois. Mr. Marteney was an active member of the Knight of Pythias Lodge in DuBois for many years. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church of DuBois. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife Eva, one brother Elihu, known by everyone as "Bee", one infant, the only sister Icie, and granddaughter Marilyn Marteney. In addition to his four children and niece, he is survived by three brothers: Onley of Lost Creek, W. Va., Huie of Maplewood, W. Va., and Alphia of Junction City, Ore., 14 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many other relatives and friends. Frank will always be remembered for his kindness and devotion to his family and friends; and for his willingness to lend a helping hand in time of need. Funeral services were Thursday, Feb. 18, 1971, 2 p.m., at the United Mthodist Church in DuBois, with Rev. Claude McMinn in charge. Pallbearers were Ivan Wissler, Raymond Gugelman, Howard Koester, Gene Emmons, Lyle Droge and Loyd Popelka. Caring for flowers was Mrs. Leo Haight and Mrs. Kenneth Anderson. Songs were "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Beyond The Sunset". David Rinne was soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Rex Griffith, organist. Burial was in the DuBois cemetery with arrangements by Wherry Bros., Pawnee City. (From the Pawnee Republican)
