FRANK YOBLE Frank Yoble was born on March 16, 1860, in Vienna, Austia, and passed away on July 24, 1950, at the age of 90 years, 4 months, and 8 days. He came to America with his foster parents in 1872, locating at Saginaw, Mich., and later moved to Jones County, Ia., where he spent nine years with the Wherry family. On Dec. 25, 1883, he was united in marriage to Sadie Powlishta, and to this union two daughters were born. In 1887, hoping to improve his wife's health, he moved his family to Barneston, Nebr., but she passed away on April 14, 1888. On Jan. 29, 1889, he married Josephine Shinn, and four children were born to this union, three daughters and one son. In 1903 he moved his family to a farm one half mile east of DuBois where they lived until 1918 when he retired from active farm life and moved to DuBois. He joined the Methodist Church and was an active member of the same as long as his health permitted. He leaves to mourn his passing six children, Maggie Luke, Delevan, Wis.; May Schlecte, Lincoln; Blanche Chauza, DuBois; Lillian Votroubek, Pawnee City; Edmund Yoble, DuBois; and Olga Fankhauser, Bakersfield, Calif.; also 21 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren, and a host of friends. His wife preceded him in death on Nov. 16, 1948. The funeral service was held in the DuBois Evangelical United Brethren church on Wednesday afternoon, and was conducted by the Rev. W. N. Wallis. Burial was in the DuBois cemetery. FRANK YOBLE Frank Yoble was born born 16, 1860 in Vienna, Austria, he never knew his parents, except his father was German and his mother French. He was taken right from the hospital by Mr. & Mrs. Kouba. They received checks for his care for 2 years or more, then the checks stopped. They never investigated why as they wanted him. Frank was 9 years old when the Kouba's came to America, they brought him along, they paid to bring male orphans to America. He had a small leather Bible with his name, Frank Yoble on a little card. Kouba's lived in Iowa. Frank probably worked and stayed as that was his home, until he was 15 he went out on his own. The Wherry home, lots of boys called their mother "Ma" so he asked her if he could call her Ma too. She said fine. I don't know what he called Mrs. Kouba but have heard him say Mrs. Wherry was the only mother he knew. He married Sade Pavlishta (born June 15, 1864) on Dececmber 25, 1883 and they moved to Barneston, NE where Maggie (Luke) and Sadie May (Stepan) were born. Their mother was ill with Consumption or Tuberculosis and died (April 14, 1888) when Sadie May was a baby 6 months old. Mrs. Votroubek (Louie's parents) took the girls until the grandparents came from Iowa, then they took them to Iowa, friends, I believe. Mr. Votroubek traveled around the country, Insurence I believe, He said he knew Josephine Shinn in Humboldt, NE- she would sure be a good wife and mother to his girls so he could have them with him. So Frank went to Humboldt to meet her. I've heard her say they saw each other only 3 times before they married (January 29, 1889). September 1918, foster Mother Kouba 85 years old, wanted to meet Frank's wife and family so her daughter, Mary (Vaskovski) brought her from Iowa to see the family. Mrs. Kouba spoke only Bohemian, so I couldn't visit and find out things I would of liked to know. She gave me $5.00 bill; she had hidden from Mary and told me to get some things I would need as I was getting married September 30, 1918, but not to let Mary know. I ordered my silverware, but I couldn't thank her or tell her. I don't know if Mary was an only child; Grandma Kouba did say, when she died she wanted Frank to share equally, as she considered him one of hers. Grandna Kouba died when she was in her 90's; sister Maggie expected Frank to come, but we didn't know Grandma Kouba was gone until Maggie wrote and said she expected him.Frank never went to school, he could not read or write except his name, but figuring numbers in his head- he was a whiz! Josephine would read news to him in the evenings- Kansas City Star, DuBois Press, Capper's Weekly- all weekly papers. There were no movies, radio, TV there yet when we left for California in 1924. FRANK YOBLE FUNEERAL RITES HELD AT DuBOIS Funeral services were held in DuBois Wednesday for Frank Yoble, 90, DuBois, former Barneston resident, who died the previous Monday at the Pawnee City hospital. The Yobles lived about 2 1/2 miles south of Barneston for about 16 years. Survivors are one son, Edmund, DuBois; five daughters- Mrs. Maggie Luke, Delevan, Wis.; Mrs. May Scfhlechte, Lincoln; Mrs.Blanche Chauza, DuBois; Mrs. Lillian Votroubek, Pawnee City; and Mrs. Olga Fankhauser, Bakersfield, Calif.; 21 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren.
