Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Solt Funeral Home in Central City with the Rev. Darryl Keeney officiating. Burial will be in the Clarks Cemetery. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Spires was born on March 10, 1937, in Clarks to Robert and Nettie (Ernst) Spires. He graduated from Clarks High School in 1955. After graduation, he worked for Behlen Mfg. Co. in Columbus until the mid-1960s. He married Marlene M. Larson on June 26, 1960, in Hordville. In the mid-1960s, he worked for Durant Elevator in Stromsburg and then was manager of the fertilizer plant in Wood River for the Grand Island Farmers Co-op Elevator. In 1969, he and his family moved to Stromsburg where he was employed with the FarmerÕs Co-op Association of York as branch manager of the Thayer Co-op. He served as branch manager of the York facility until his retirement in 1998. He enjoyed farming and hunting. Survivors are his wife; two sons, Tim (Julie) of Central City and Mike (Jane Skradski) of Columbus; three sisters, Imogene Abbott of Lincoln, Eileen (Corky) Hansher of Clarks and Beverly (Frank) Schuele of Columbus; four brothers, Robert Jr. of York, Dick of Omaha, Tom of Clarks and Dennis of McCook; and one grandson.
