Mr. and Mrs. Meyer formerly lived on a farm north of Nelson and then moved to Oak where they have resided for a number of years. The funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday in the American Lutheran church (sic) south of Nelson. ================================ The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, January 24, 1957; pg. 4 Fred F. Meyer was born in Germany on Jan 25, 1879. Baptized in infancy he came to this country with his parents as a two year old child, to settle with them on a farm in Gage County Nebr., where he received his instructions and confirmed his faith in the Lutheran Church. Later the family moved to Nuckolls County engaging in farming near the Highland school. Mr. Meyer was united in marriage to Miss Martha Klawitter at the Klawitter home in Nelson on Oct. 22, 1901. Three daughters were born to the couple of which, along with the mother, two survive their father. The deceased farmed in this community till 1920 when he moved north of Nelson on a farm till his retirement near Oak in 1943. It was granted the Meyers to celebrated their fifieth wedding anniversary five years ago. Mr. and Mrs. Meyer went to visit their daughter Helen and family at Caldwell, Ida., on Dec. 1, 1956 and had planned to spend the winter there. But as always, man proposes but God disposes and on Dec. 29, Mr. Meyer took seriously ill. He was taken to the hospital where everything humanly possible was done for him. It pleased the almighty God to call himn home on Jan. 6. Epiphany Sunday about 11:45 in the morning at the age of 77 years, 11 months, and 11 days. He leaves to mourn his departure, his sorrowing widow and his two remaining daughters; Helen, Mrs. G.W. Harms of Caldwell, Ida., Pauline, Mrs. J. Hanson of Oak, Nebr., and two grandchildren. Also remaining are two brothers, Henry and Frank Meyer of Nelson, Nebr. A quartet consisting of Donald Bargen, Clarence Kuper, F.C. Kuper, and Ed Mueller sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus," and "Abide with Me." They were accompanied by Mrs. Eldrick Grummert at the organ. The pallbearers were: Ivan Jacobitz, Everette Meyer, Ralph Meyer, Floyd Meyer, Leslie Troudt, and LaVern Troudt. Interment on Jan. 12, after funeral services at Salem American Lutheran cemetery (sic).
