Description	:	Funeral services for Fred O. Tigges, a resident in this community for many years, were held Sunday afternoon, he passed away Friday morning at 4:00 p. m. at his home In Aurelia. A short service was held at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kolpin In Aurelia where he made his home. A short service was held at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Kolpin In Aurelia where he made his home. Then to the St. John's United church of Christ Evangelical and Reformed, in Brooke Twp. Rev. Raymond Ban, pastor of the church conducted the services. Music was furnished by Miss Sara Ann Wagner, oldest great grandchild of the departed, singing "My Task" and "My Faith It Looks Up to Thee' accompanied by Miss Rose Plagman. Casket bearers were grandsons, Herbert Kracht, Larry Kolpln, Keith Mohror, Ronald Klatt, Fredrick Kolpin and John E. Wagner. Fredrick Carl Tigges, son of Fredrick Tigges and Rosa Strobach Tigges was born September 7, 1838, near La Crosse, Wis, and came to Marshall county, Iowa, in a covered wagon with his parents and family when 2 years, of age. They settled near Van Cleve where they lived until 1891 when the family moved to the new developing Brooke community near Peterson. Mr. Tlgges was united in marriage on February 1, 1903 to Miss Anna Marie Meyer at the St. John's Evangelical church near Laurel, Iowa and that spring this couple moved to a farm in Spring township, Cherokee county. This is where the couple reared their children, and it was their home for 43 years. In their declining years, they made their home near their daughter, Mrs. Fred Kolpln, in Afton township. Mrs. Tigges pased away in 1953, just 10 days after this couple had celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. In l956 Mr. Tigges moved to Aurelia with Mr and Mrs. Kolpln and this was his home until the day of his death. Last fall when Mr. Tigges had reached the ripe old age of 90 years. "Open House" was held in honor of this pioneers, and he often referred to it as one of the happiest days of his life. He was blessed with an alert mind and a keen sense of humor, he loved company, especially the companionship of children. Tigges was truly an optimist, was never given to complaining, and always saw the bright side of things. He was a faithful member of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed church of Brooke and al- ways took active interest in the affairs of his church and community. He enjoyed fairly good health all his life until the past 9 months. He had been bedfast since May 15 and during his illness was cared for by the members of his immediate family. He was called to his eternal rest on Friday morning, August 21, 1959, having attained the age of 90 years, 11 months, 14 days. Mr Tigges is survived by four daughters: Mrs. John L. (Marie) Kracht, Mrs. George (Lulu) Kracht, Mrs. Emmett (Ina) Mohror, all of the Brooke community, and Mrs. Fred (Edna) Kolpin of Aurelia; two sons Theadore of Spencer and Walter of Omaha, Nebr.; one sister, Mrs. Augusta Plagman of Brooke, 10 grandchildren and 24 greatgrandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, 2 sons Edward and Fredrick who died in infancy, 3 sisters and 4 brothers. Peterson Patriot, Sep 3, 1959, Pg. 1
