Deceased are a son, Marc (Nancy); an infant grandson; two brothers, Leonard and Robert; a sister, Lucille Christophel; his stepmother, Ethel Troyer; and his father- and mother-in-law, Frederic G. and Babette Wendling. He retired from farming. He was a good steward of the land and enjoyed nature. He loved the outdoors and spent time camping, bird watching and hiking. He had an adventurous spirit, enjoying traveling and learning about different cultures. He was interested in history and researching genealogy. He was a man of faith and was an member of Pike Mennonite Church, Elida, where he was a Sunday school teacher, elder and councilman. He was a conscientious objector during World War II , therefore he served in the Civilian Public Service in Luray, Va., and Beltsville, Mass. From 1946 to 1949, he served with the Mennonite Central Committee's reconstruction and transport unit in France. He volunteered with the Mennonite Disaster Service across the United States throughout the years. Services are at Pike Mennonite Church, Elida, with Pastor Glenn Rader officiating.
