Read More	La Porte City, Iowa Thursday, February 24, 1921, Old Time Resident Answers Last Call On Thursday night of last week about eleven o’clock, occurred the death of Guard Purdy at his home in Spring Creek township, at the age of 77 years. The deceased was one of the earliest settlers of Spring Creek township, and for almost 49 years, had lived in the house where his death took place. He came here in the pioneer days of Iowa, and suffered the privations of those early times. He was a quiet and retiring nature, and was respected by all who gained his acquaintance. Mr. Purdy had been in failing health for about three months, but of the day of his death had been about as usual. Soon after retiring Thursday evening he became sick and at eleven o’clock passed away. He is survived by his aged wife and the following children, all of whom were present at the funeral, William, Winchell, Henry and Charles of this vicinity, Edward of Brandon and Mrs. Stella Evans, of Vinton. Funeral services were held from the Purdy home Saturday afternoon at two o’clock, conducted by Rev. Wetel, pastor of the Emmanuel M.E. church of Spring Creek township, of which the deceased was a member. Interment was at the Spring Creek cemetery.
