He had been critically ill since New Year's Eve when he entered the Omaha hospital. He was dismissed on January 9th and was allowed to return home. Read More	From The Wolbach Messenger January 29, 1959, page 1, transcribed by Linda Berney: Gene Leroy Nealon was born June 26, 1942 at Wolbach to Anthony and Lula Nealon and passed away January 18, 1959 in an Omaha hospital following a lingering illness. He had been critically ill since New Year's Eve when he entered the Omaha hospital. He was dismissed on January 9th and was allowed to return home. He was admitted to the Howard County Memorial Hospital on Jan. 13 and re-entered the Omaha hospital on Jan. 15. All of his life was spent in Greeley County. At the time of his death he was a sophomore student in the Wolbach high school and had attended regularly until this year. He also attended rural schools in the District 53 and Leo Valley communities. He had also been a substitute carrier for the Grand Island Independent for three years. During the years he attended school he acquired many friends who will always remember him for his friendly ways and his kindness toward others. His passing will leave an empty place among them. Gene attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Wolbach and considered it as his church home. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith just prior to his last trip to the University Hospital in Omaha. In his stay at the University Hospital Gene made many friends for himself. His courage in the time of his illness was an inspiration to all who came in contact with him. The visiting chaplain at the hospital reported to his parents that Gene was very good to help others in his ward at the hospital whenever he was able. He often attended church while a patient there. Survivors include his parents and three sisters, Mrs. Betty Gantt of Omaha, Mrs. Mary Ann Timmons of Wolbach and Miss Velma Nealon at home.
