Langemeier Dates on Tombstone = 1873 - 1941 Obituary The Hooper Sentinel October 30, 1941 Hooper Man Dies of Car Injuries Family and friends of George Langemeier, retired Hooper farmer, were grieved and shocked when it became known early Tuesday morning that he had passed away at 6 o'clock from the effects of injuries received the previous afternoon when he was struck by an automobile while walking west with his son, John, on the paved highway near the Basler service station. The fatal accident occurred around 3:30 Monday afternoon when Walter Gosker of Washington county, driving in the same direction that the two men were walking, attempted to pass them. According to all reports, Gosker is exonerated from blame, since he was driving at a medium rate and sounded his horn as a signal that he would pass. It is believed that Mr. Langemeier became confused, stepping directly into the pathway of the oncoming car and sustaining shock and injuries from which he could not rally. George Bernard Langemeier, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Herman Langemeier, was born April 9, 1873, at Rising Sun, Ind., and died at Hooper, Nebr., October 28, 1941, aged 68 years, 6 months and 19 days. He came to Nebraska with his parents in 1882 and settled on a farm northwest of Hooper in which neighborhood he lived almost continuously excepting for one year at Central City and three years at Atkinson, moving to Hooper from the farm when he retired last year. He was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Stover on May 25, 1899, and to their union a family of ten children were born, two dying in infancy. Surviving to mourn the sudden and tragic death of a beloved husband and father are his widow, one daughter and seven sons. They are, John, Edwin, Elmer and Clara (Mrs. Norman Keller), all of Hooper, Walter and Arnold of Nickerson, Gilbert of Scribner, and Wilbert of Snyder; two brothers, William of Plainview and Harry of Hartington; two sisters, Mrs. Clara Schiemmeier of West Point and Mrs. Louisa Nieman of Perham, Minn. Thirteen grandchildren also survive as well as a host of friends who had learned to trust and respect him thru out the years. A member of St. John Lutheran church over a period of 21 years, Mr. Langemeier was faithful to the doctrines and teachings of his faith and it is at this church, St. John's northwest of Hooper, that the funeral services will be held this Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock following the 1:30 service at the home. Rev. Theo. Norden, pastor of St. John's, will be the officiating clergyman, and Wollmer & Warne are in charge of arrangements. Interment will be in the church cemetery.hhw
