Dirks, 68, were held Monday morning, Oct 28, at Wayne Zion Lutheran church with burial in Wayne Zion cemetery. Rev. Harvey O. Gilbertson officiated. Mr. Dirks died Friday morning, Oct 25, at his Amber home of an apparent heart attack. He was born Sept 21, 1906 near Sand Springs, son of William and Margaret Dirks. He received his early education in Black Oak rural school, Center Jct. In 1944 at Brisbane, Australia, he married May Irene Stansfield and the couple made their home for a short time in Australia. After his discharge from the Army in 1945, the couple moved to Downers Grove, Ill. and then returned to Australia for a brief time. In 1963, the couple moved to Amber and Mr. Dirks was employed at the men's reformatory in Anamosa until his retirement in 1967. He was a member of Wayne Zion Lutheran church, American Legion, VFW and AmVets. He is survived by his wife, five sons, Harvey and Phillip of Cedar Rapids, Keith of Cornell college, Gayle at home and James Conley of Anamosa; two step-daughters, Corall Stansfield and Mrs. Robert (Lynnette) Dauphinais, both of Mountain View, Calif. Also five grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Grace Hanley of Peoria, Ill. Mrs. Edna Thomas of Clinton, Mrs. Mary Hinrichs of Amber and Mrs. Louis Gerdes of Dixon, Ill. and two brothers, Louis of Naperville, Ill. and Clarence of Clinton. He was preceded in death by a sister and a brother. Casket bearers were Stanley Wroblewski, August Wroblewski, Raymond Hinrichs, Merlin Husmann, Dennis Hinrichs and Robert L. Dirks.
