Description	:	George Edmond Taylor Sr., son of Lester and Grace (Scott) Taylor, was born February 25, 1928 in Table Rock, Nebraska. He attended grade school in Table Rock until his family moved to a farm north of Humboldt and then attended Bratton Union for a time, and graduated from Humboldt High School with the class of 1946. George went to work in sales and finance positions for Stansbury Implement, Strong Brothers Chevrolet, and Federated Finance Corporation. Read More	George Edmond Taylor Sr., son of Lester and Grace (Scott) Taylor, was born February 25, 1928 in Table Rock, Nebraska. He attended grade school in Table Rock until his family moved to a farm north of Humboldt and then attended Bratton Union for a time, and graduated from Humboldt High School with the class of 1946. George went to work in sales and finance positions for Stansbury Implement, Strong Brothers Chevrolet, and Federated Finance Corporation. It was during this time George married his first wife Darlene Stevicks. They had a daughter Delores in 1950 and a son George Jr. in 1954. After returning to Strong Brothers Chevrolet for a time he purchased the dealership in 1962 and it became Taylor Chevrolet. George owned and operated Taylor Chevrolet until 1976 when he sold it and returned to farming with his father Lester. In addition to farming, George at various times operated his own bulldozer, hauled livestock, sold seed, and sold cars at his son’s dealership in Seneca, Kansas. George devoted much time and energy to the civic life of Humboldt. He served as President of the Humboldt Chamber of Commerce in 1965. He served two terms on the Humboldt City Council. One of his proudest accomplishments while on city council was to help lead the effort to establish Colonial Acres Nursing Home in 1969. George joined the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge in Humboldt in 1947, and eventually rose to the position of Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Nebraska during 2009-10. He was a member of the Richardson County Weed Board and also served on committees of the Humboldt United Methodist Church. He was named the 2005 King of the Richardson County Fair. One day while sitting in the showroom of Taylor Chevrolet he was urged by his salesman John Turner to ask out one of George’s high school classmates who happened to be passing by on the sidewalk. He did. They struck up a relationship that eventually led to George marrying Sylvia Tupa on October 19, 1968. George adopted Sylvia’s son Gary. George and Sylvia celebrated their 51st wedding anniversary in 2019. They lived in Humboldt for the remainder of their lives. George passed away on Monday, March 16, 2020 at Nemaha County Hospital in Auburn, Nebraska after a brief illness. He was ninety-two years of age at his death. He is survived by daughter Delores and her husband Ron of Loveland Colorado, their children Heidi and Scott and five great grandchildren; son George Jr. of Beatrice, Nebraska, his children Ed and Kathryn, and three great grandchildren; and son Gary and his wife Lisa, of Ames, Iowa and their children Sam and Madeline. George was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sylvia, his brother Kenneth, and sister Mary (Taylor) Harlow.
