BEDEA George Emory Bedea was born to Martha and Benjamin Bedea, January 19, 1865 at Long Point, Illinois, and passed away Thursday morning, January 13, 1955 at about 10 o'clock at the Pawnee County Memorial Hospital, after an illness of several weeks. Mr. Bedea would have been 90 years old on January 19th. He came to Table Rock with his family in February, 1882, at the age of seventeen and for a few years lived on a farm south of town. Two years were spent in Louisiana and one in Colorado on a homestead. Returning to Table Rock, he was united in marriage to May N. Becker in February 1893. Their entire life was spent at the farm home northeast of Table Rock. Having no children of their own, they took into their home three orphaned nephews; Charlie, Wilbur and Harold Slack. Later two more children, Grace, age 14 and Howard 16 months, were added to the family circle, both of whom have preceded Mr. Bedea in death. Mr. Bedea became a member of the Methodist Church at Table Rock, February 11, 1894. He was an active church worker having served on the Official Board and as Sunday School Superintendent for several years. His earlier life was one of service and devotion to his home, local school and community. He bore with tolerance and patience the many afflictions that came with advancing years and remained busy and interested in every day happenings until the last weeks of life. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, three brothers and one sister. His wife May, passed away on October 12, 1938. Mr. Bedea is survived by grandchildren, daughter-in-law, sister-in-law, nieces and nephews who will greatly miss him and mourn his passing. ---------------------------------------------------------- Table Rock Argus, March 31, 1910. George E. Bedea a prominent farmer living east of town, was severely injured on Thursday evening of last week- He was hauling and spreading manure, when something became wrong with the harness and Mr. Bedea walked out on the wagon tongue to fix it, something frightened the horses at this time and they started to run, throwing Mr. Bedea beneath the heavy iron wheels of the wagon. He was seriously injured about the head, and rendered unconscious; he was carried to the house and Dr. Cherry sent for, who arrived promptly and attended the injuries. Upon returning to consciousness, Mr. Bedea could give no clear idea of just how the accident happened. He is reported as improving this morning.
