Read More	Obituary of George Engel Early Settler Passes Away Death came to Mr. Engel early Sunday morning, July 26, 1936, after a lingering illness. Aside from various maladies, the cause of his death was infirmity of old age. George Engel was born October 24, 1857, at Kutzenhausen, Bas-Rhin, Alsace-Lorraine, France. On November1st of that year he was baptized into the name of the Triune God. From his father he learned the cabinetmaker trade and for a time followed this trade in Paris, France. In the year 1884 he immigrated into this country. The first year he spent in Cass County, from where he came to western Nebraska with his brother-in-law, Carl Pankonin. On June 16, 1887, Mr. Engel entered the state of holy matrimony with Caroline Schaffner. Of this union eight children were born, of whom two sons died in early infancy. Another son, Walter, died in the service of his country during the World War. The children that survive the death of their father are: Mr. Rudolph Becker, Mrs. Arthur C. Boehmer, Hermand, William and Anna. He is also survived by two sisters: Mrs. Caroline Goehry of Lincoln and Mrs. Barbara Goetz of Wabash, Nebraska. Besides these, eighteen grandchildren mourn his death. On Monday evening at 6:00 o'clock a brief farewell service was conducted at the home of the deceased. From there the funeral cortege wended it way to the church, where Rev. Rudolph Norden spoke words of consolation in both the German and English language. Trinity choir rendered several selections for the comfort of the bereaved. Interment rites followed in Trinity Cemetery.Pallbearers were; Wm. Dittmer; Chas., Louis, Otto, Emil and Herman Pankonin. Mindekrans bequests in memory of George Engel were made for the Board of Support by the following; Trinity Ladies' Aid, Mrs. Geo. Engel, Miss Anna Engel, Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Boehmer, Mr and Mrs. R. L. Becker, Emil Pankonin, Chas. Pankonin, Otto Pankonin, Wm. Holscher, J. J. Geisert, Wm. Dittmer and their respective families. Tribune Sentinel Newspaper, Grant Nebraska. July 30, 1936.
