George was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on October 13, 1908 to Frederick Dimmitt and Bertha Grace McCartney Dimmitt. He graduated from Park College in Parkville, Missouri in 1932, where he met Ethel Dean Johnson. George and Dean were married on June 12, 1937 in Kankakee, Illinois. George was born in Ottumwa, Iowa on October 13, 1908 to Frederick Dimmitt and Bertha Grace McCartney Dimmitt. He graduated from Park College in Parkville, Missouri in 1932, where he met Ethel Dean Johnson. George and Dean were married on June 12, 1937 in Kankakee, Illinois. From 1933-1939, George was owner and editor of a weekly newspaper in Allerton, Iowa. In 1942, he graduated from Garrett Theological Seminary in Evanston, Illinois. Rev. Dimmitt served Methodist churches in Logan and Magnolia, Iowa followed by 9 years at the Fort Des Moines Methodist Church in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1956 George became superintendent of Wesley Acres Retirement Home in Des Moines, Iowa, and in 1966 he became manager of South Iowa Methodist Homes. George was very active in ministries related to the elderly and aging. He was the recipient of the Iowa Association of Homes for the Aging's Pioneer Award. In 1975, George and Dean retired and moved to Mountain Home, Arkansas, where they spent the next fifteen years enjoying the natural beauty of the Ozarks. George had a green thumb and enjoyed taking care of his plants, trees, and garden. In 1990, they moved to Aldersgate Village in Topeka, Kansas. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Georgia Dean, and survived by his wife, a son, daughter and two grandchildren.
