George and Cecilia had six children, according to a message received on June 10, 2016. Married second to Catherine Palmer Herman on Feb. 10, 1850. Note: (updated July 13, 2016): originally entered a middle initial "W" onto this memorial in deference to the Fairfield Tribune obituary, but it should be noted that no middle name or initial is on his headstone inscription. George Herman died in this city Saturday morning in the ninety-third (sic) years of his age. Catherine, his wife, to whom he was married in 1850, died here just a year ago at the age of eighty. Mr. Herman was a native of Baden, Germany, and came to the United States in the '40's. In 1860 he removed with his family from Louisville, Ken., to Burlington, and a few years later came to Walnut township, this county. His residence in this city dated back to 1890. Until two or three years past he was a strong and vigorous man for one of his years, and was on the street almost daily. He was a genial, cheerful old fellow and had many friends among those who knew him. Two children in this city survive the aged parents (sic. these two children were of George's first marriage, not his marriage to Catherine), Mrs. G. P. Lang and John Herman. Mr. Herman's remains were interred Sunday evening at 5 o'clock, and funeral services were held at St. Mary's church by Rev. A. M. Nodler. ---------------- Fairfield Tribune Wednesday Aug. 25, 1897 Pg. 2 Col. 3 "....Last Saturday morning at two o'clock occured (sic) the death of George W. (sic. H ??) Herman, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. G. P. Lang, on east Burlington street. Mr. Herman was born in Baden, Germany, April 21, 1805 and came to America in 1834. He moved to this state in 1856, coming to this county about 1860, and for the past four years has been living with his daughter in this city. The funeral took place Sunday afternoon at five o'clock at the Catholic church, in this city, Rev. A. M. Nodler conducting the services."
