His farm was located in Jackson Co., Minn. OBITUARY ON FUNERAL HOME HANDOUT George Stammer, the son of Herman C and Catherine Stammer, was born Sept 22, 1896 at Huntington, Iowa. They resided here and Estherville where he grew to manhood, and on August 8, 1917 he was united in marriage to Edna Mary Dorsey at La Junta, Colo. To this union 10 children were born. Six boys and four girls. They lived in Estherville, where George worked for the Rock Island Railroad, and in 1928 they started farming near Estherville, Iowa. In 1939 the Stammers purchased their present farm, nine miles Northwest of Spirit Lake. He passed away at the Dickinson County Memorial Hospital in Spirit Lake, on Wednesday, August 5, 1970, at the age of 73 years, 10 months and 13 days. He leaves to mourn his passing 4 sons James of Perry, Iowa; Everett, Lloyd, and Harold of Spirit Lake, Iowa: 3 daughters, Edna Marion Anderson of Galesburg, Ill,; Evelyn Kilpatrick of Abingdon, Ill., and Irene Schoonover of Cabton, Ill.; 34 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren: 2 brothers and 3 sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Edna Mary in 1959, two sons Clifford in 1947 and Ralph in 1945, one daughter Mildred Reiter in 1969; 3 brothers. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the American Legion. One son, James has just been graduated from the radio school of the Army Air School at Jefferson Barracks, Mo. Another son, Clifford has enlisted in the Marines and will leave early next week for Des Moines to report for active service. A third son, Everett enlisted last week in the Navy and is awaiting his call to start his training. The Stammers have three more sons at home, 17, 16 and 5 years of age, all who are active in the production of necessary foods to keep the boys already in the service well fed.
