Mrs Robert Mason sang "Abide With Me" and Mrs. Jesse Purdy was the pianist. The pallbearers were nephews of the deceased: Art Luft, Louie Luft, Leslie T. Freese, P.J. Gronemeyer, Henry P. Schramm and L.A Schramm. Burial was made in the Salem Reformed cemetery by the side of his wife. Those from a distance attending the service were Art Luft, Sioux Rapids; Mr. and Mrs. Leslie T. Freese, Sac City, and some relatives from Early. Illness and the snowstorm prevented more from attending. George Luft, son of Casper and Barbara Luft, was born May 17, 1864, at Mendota, IL. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in his youth. His family came to Iowa when he was 15 years old and lived on farms in Clinton township. He was united in marriage to Wilhelmina Schramm about 1885. To this union four children were born, John of California; Anna (Mrs. Charles Hix who passed away March 27, 1938); Will of New Jersey and Charlie of Alta. He is survived by these three sons; two sisters, Mrs. L.W. Schramm and Mrs. G.J. Freese, and seven grandchildren. Mr. Luft continued with the vocation of farming and also operated threshing machines until he moved to Odebolt about 1906. It was while living here that Mrs. Luft passed away Feb. 28. 1909. Four years later, Mr. Luft went to Herscher, IL., and has lived there since. He made his last visit here four years ago. Mr. Luft lived alone and on the night of December 21 fire broke out in his home and he met his death by suffocation. He had attained the age of 81 years, seven months, and four days.
