Osborne county), Kansas, the son of John and Almira Horton, and passed away at 4:15 p.m. on Sept. 4, 1944 at the Jefferson county hospital. Osborne county), Kansas, the son of John and Almira Horton, and passed away at 4:15 p.m. on Sept. 4, 1944 at the Jefferson county hospital. He had been ill for three weeks following an emergency appendectomy. In 1893 he moved with his parents to Nodaway county, Missouri. On October 24, 1900 he was married to Miss Catherine Bays (sic. Mary Catherine Bays) and they lived near Maryville, Mo. until 1905 when they moved to Fairfield, where they have since made their home. Surviving are his wife and two daughters, Lena Mary Horton of New York City and Dorothy Horton of Evanston, Ill. Mr. Horton was a lifelong member of the Methodist church. His father was a minister of that church, his first pastorate being at Salina, Iowa. George Horton was a devoted husband and father and was loved by all who knew him. He loved and was beloved especially by the children of Logan school where he had worked for twenty years. One of his greatest pleasures was working with growing things and in death as in life he was surrounded by the beautiful flowers that he loved. Funeral services were held at the Hoskins funeral home at 4:00 p.m. on Sept. 6 with Rev. S. P. Williamson and Dr. Curtis R. Douglass officiating. Mrs. Mary Lutes sang "The Lord Is My Shepherd" and "Near To The Heart of God", accompanied by Mrs. William Stever. Pallbearers were W. G. Pence, R. C. Norman, L. E. Clinkenbeard, Marshall Coots, Lawrence Roth and William Stever. He was laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery.
