Description	:	George was born to Norman and Caroline Lent in Naperville, IL. He was married twice; first to Mattie Cobb (daughter of Thaddeus Cobb of Correctionville, Iowa) and secondly to Mary Katherine (last name unknown). He had a daughter with his wife Mattie; her name was Grace M. Lent (born Nov. 1887). The following was a note written by his grandneice, Adele Lee: "Uncle George grew up in Naperville, Illinois, and like six of his brothers, became a blacksmith. In 1880, he joined his brother Ed in Correctionville, Iowa, but later moved to Cherokee. He loved animals, and could train horses and dogs to do almost anythng. (I remember one picture of his bulldog sitting on a chair with a derby hat on his head and a pipe in his mouth.) He trained horses for the trotting (sulkey) races at the County Fair, and drove one in the race himself. He was a fun-loving person, albeit very strait-laced. My mother recalled an incident in which his daughter did something of which he disapproved; her mother defended her, and Uncle George divorced his wife and disowned his daughter. After his second marriage to "Aunt Katie", I spent part of one summer with them on their farm near Pierson. Uncle George tried very hard to keep me entertained, let me ride one of his horses while he led her around the farmyard, told me stories, and let me read all the back issues of the ARGOSY ALL-STORY WEEKLY, which were stored in the upstairs bedroom in which I slept. I don't remember seeing much of Aunt Katie. She had frequent severe headaches, of which I was convinced I was the cause. He visited us in Sioux City occasionally (during the 1920's), and my mother was always very happy to see him, but admonished June and me to wash our faces, comb our hair, and be on good behavior while he was there." (Memoir written in May 1990 by Adele Lee) ----------------- Cherokee Democrat newspaper humor article (date unknown): "During the busy season, George Lent, the blacksmith, has had his dog, Dodo, carry his dinner for him from his home to the shop in a dinner pail. On Saturday, while returning home, the dog got separated from the pail. Mr. Lent is satisfied someone took it away from him, possibly for a joke. It contained a fork and spoon prized highly by the owner, and he says he will pay a good reward of $5.00 for their return to him."
