Description	:	Elgin was the first son of Norman and Caroline Lent. He was born in Geddys, Onondaga County, New York in 1851. Soon after he was born the family headed west to Illinois where Elgin's father established a blacksmith trade for many years in Naperville, IL. He was born in Geddys, Onondaga County, New York in 1851. Soon after he was born the family headed west to Illinois where Elgin's father established a blacksmith trade for many years in Naperville, IL. Like all Norman's sons (except Walter), Elgin became a blacksmith. He married Civilla Cribbs and moved to Cherokee City, Iowa. Elgin and Civilla had four children: Frankie E. (died at age 7 and buried at Naperville Cemetery); Fred E.; Mae; and Maude. Elgin was living at the time of the 1900 census, but Civilla is a widow in the 1910 census. Elgin's son Fred E. Lent became a bridge engineer, and his daughter May became a school teacher and later instructor of home economics at the University of California, Berkeley.
