Putnam of Council Bluffs, who read the following obituary: George Young, eldest son of L.R. and Agnes Young, was born near Woodbine, Iowa, March 1, 1878, and passed away Wednesday, November 22, 1939, at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, at the age of 61 years, 8 months and 21 days. He was baptized a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints by Elder Charles F. Putnam on April 10, 1921. He was ordained to the office of priest October 11, 1924, and later was ordained an elder, and was pastor of the Woodbine branch at the time of his death. He was preceded in death by one sister, two grandsons, father and mother. He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, Mary, four daught-ers and one son: Edna McElwain of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Irene Fewins of Cameron, Missouri, Helen Leonard of Beebeetown, Iowa, Iona Hiller of Woodbine, Iowa, and Howard Young of Mondamin, Iowa. Also three brothers: Tom, Edd and Dick, all of Woodbine, three sisters, Kate Boone and Bessie Hare of Woodbine, and Fannie Deal of Cameron, Missouri, and eleven grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a kind, loving husband and father and always ready to lend a helping hand in time of need. His was a life well lived, and when he found, what to him, seemed to be plainly his Christian responsibility, he entered fully into the obliga-tion he so keenly sensed; and without any unseemly agitation, he lived among his fellowmen a vital and dynamic demonstration of his idealism. George Young is not dead. He lives yet among us in influence, in memory and in a positive testimony of his contact with the Divine as indicated by his almost every word and act in life. His was a great character because he measured up to his obligation to his family, his fellowmen and his God. And so the very mention of his name will ever recall to those who knew him in life, the influence that radiated from him—one that created a desire to better live and carried ever upward to higher standards of life, those who came in contact with him, and an influence that we who remain here, can never forget. Yes, George Young lives on. Music was furnished by E.A. Rosenberger and Mrs. Lewis Smith, accompanied at the piano by Miss Lucille Pett. The pallbearers were nephews, Ralph, Cecil, and Richard Young, John Boone, William Hare, and Archie Deal.
