Funeral arrangements were at the McAninch Funeral home Tuesday, Jan. 4 with the Rev. Herbert Foxworthy officiating. Two hymmns were played by organist Mrs. Edith Shaul, "How Great Thou Art" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Pallbearers were Keith and Edward Kempf, Jim Simpson, Mel Happel, Russ Fetzer and Ben Irwin, Iowa City. Flowers were handled by the Joseph B. Van Quekelberghes and Rudy Meyer. Interment was in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. Mrs. Callahan was born Gertrude Marie Kempf in Victor, the daughter of the Edward Kempfs, botyh of whom preceded her in death. She left Victor and went to he Marinello School of Beauty Culture, Minneapolis, MN., then to the Marinello school in New York City as an instructor and later opened her won beauty salon at 46th Street and 5th Avenue in New York City. The Callahans were married Aug. 12, 1930 in Greenwich, CT., and in 1936 took an extensive European trip. When both retired in 1946, they came back to Victor to make their home. He served a number of years as Victor mayor. Surviors include her husband, Jim, two brothers, Lester Kempf, Victor; and Earl Kempf, Cedar Rapids; a niece Mrs. Kay Simpson and two nephews Keith Kempf of Victor and Edward Kempf, Cedar Rapids.
