Born Jan. 3, 1920, in rural Dixon County, Neb., Glenn R. Martinsen was the son of Gabe and Bertha (Wendte) Martinsen. He attended Newcastle Public Schools. He was united in marriage to Clara Kuehler on April 3, 1951. The couple was divorced in 1974. On Nov. 5, 1999, Glenn married Lulu Rollefson at Onawa. Glenn served in the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the South Pacific region. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He farmed in the Ponca, Newcastle and Sibley areas. He was then employed at the Wilson Meatpacking plant in Cherokee, Iowa, for many years before retiring. Survivors include his wife, Lu; three children, Jane Green of Primghar, Iowa, Diane (Frank) Kayser of Le Mars, Iowa, and John (Kathy) Martinsen of Windom, Minn.; four stepchildren, Luella Rock of Harpeswell, Maine, Ed (Diane) Lampe of Ida Grove, Beth (Jene) Hightree of Onawa, and Gene (Diane) Rollefson of Kingsley, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; two brothers, Max Martinsen of Cherokee and Dean of Hawarden, Iowa; two sisters, Elsie Lund of Newcastle, Neb., and Donna Anderson of South Sioux City; and three sisters-in-law, Edna Martinsen, Nina Martinsen and Minnie Martinsen. He was preceded in death by a son, David; his parents; a sister, Lois Harder; and three brothers, Elmer, Clarence and Lloyd Martinsen.
