Read More	WAS KILLED IN AUTO ACCIDENT Mr. Gordon Carlisle Daugherty, well known resident of the community, was almost instantly killed last Saturday afternoon when his car collided with a truck on the main highway just outside the city limits. He was 65 years of age. Mr. Daugherty was on his way to Ocean City, where he held the position of night policeman. It is reported that as the truck driver stopped his truck to make a left turn, Mr. Daugherty started to pass, but saw a truck coming in the other traffic lane. In attempting to pull back in line, his car hit the truck and was almost demolished. Mr. Daugherty lived but a few minutes after the crash. Taken to the McCready Hospital, he was pronounced dead on arrival. Mr. Daugherty was well known in the community and had a wide circle of friends here. The son of the late Charles O. and Maggie F. Daugherty, he was born on Pine street, and as a young man learned the blacksmithing trade under his father. He had been engaged in the retail merchandising business at various times, and served at times as a special policeman. For years he had been an active member of the Crisfield Fire Department, and had taken an active part in civic affairs. He was well liked because of his well-known willingness to help others, and nothing was too much trouble for him to do for a friend. People who knew him well held him in real esteem. He had been a member of the Elk's Lodge here for a long time. Funeral services were conducted at the Covington Funeral Home on Main street Monday at 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. Leslie E. Werner, pastor of Asbury Methodist Church officiating, with the Rev. Frye, pastor of Immanuel Methodist Church assisting. Interment was in Asbury Cemetery, where a graveside service was held by Crisfield Lodge No. 1044, B. P. O. E. Bearers were members of the Elk's Lodge, with members of the Crisfield Fire Department acting as honorary bearers. Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Hattie Sterling Daugherty, one son, Gordon Carlisle Daugherty, Jr., Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy, now stationed at Hyattsville, Md., a brother, C.
