Description	:	Gordon Eugene Jantzen, 61, of Beatrice died at a Lincoln hospital on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 after suffering a very damaging heart attack a few days earlier. Region V staff members were at his side continuously until his passing. He was born June 8, 1953 to Frank G. and Gertrude C. Jantzen, nee Claassen. Read More	Gordon Eugene Jantzen, 61, of Beatrice died at a Lincoln hospital on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 after suffering a very damaging heart attack a few days earlier. Region V staff members were at his side continuously until his passing. He was born June 8, 1953 to Frank G. and Gertrude C. Jantzen, nee Claassen. He has attended First Mennonite Church, Beatrice, NE his whole life, becoming a member by baptism in 1970. First Mennonite Church members have been faithful providers of transportation, care, visitation, and interest over the years. From the time he was school age until about 16 years of age, he attended the Martin Lutheran Home School in Beatrice, NE. He was an enthusiastic, eager student. He lived at home with his parents until October of 1992, when he moved into a group home operated by Region V Services on Summit Street in Beatrice. He also performed a variety of activities in Region V workshop settings and was proud to tell of his latest responsibilities. On arriving at the home on Summit Street, Gordon gained a whole new "family"--people to tease, shake hands with, tell stories about, be teased by, and introduce to his "old" family. Gordon liked to shake hands and greet people with a big smile. He would frequently ask, "What are you doing?" His list of favorite things to do include: attending weekly worship services at First Mennonite Church, bowling with friends, taking trips, listening to music, and visiting with family and friends. He is survived by a brother, John D. Jantzen and sister-in-law Marge Jantzen of Oklahoma City, and a niece, Jill Jantzen of Cincinnati, OH. He is survived by one aunt, Hildegard Jantzen of Beatrice, and numerous Jantzen and Claassen cousins and their families, scattered across North America. Finally, he is survived by many, too numerous to name, whom he adopted as family and who loved him, from Region V Services, and from First Mennonite Church-all who helped him live a good and wholesome life. He was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial celebration will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, July 11, 2014 at the First Mennonite Church of rural Beatrice with Pastor Gail Cross officiating. Burial will precede the service at 10:00 A.M. Friday at the First Mennonite Cemetery of rural Beatrice. A memorial has been established to Region V. The body will lie in state at the Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. Thursday and not at the church on Friday. The family will meet and greet relatives and friends from 6:30 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home. Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice is in charge of the arrangements.
