MARION - The body of a young Marion man was discovered in a burning automobile about six miles south of Marion on the Centenary Highway about midnight last night. The body was identified as that of Grover Cleveland Ammons, 25, who worked at a service station here. The car was nosed into a shallow ditch on the western side of the highway just opposite the intersection of a dirt road. The appearance of the front of the car did not indicate that it went off the road at any great speed, since the front was not damaged greatly. When member of the Marion Rural Fire Department arrived shortly after midnight, the car was burning rapidly. Funeral services, announced by Smith Brothers Funeral Home, will be held Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Reedy Creek Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. O. R. Hilliard. Burial will be in the adjoining cemetery. Mr. Ammons was the son of Mrs. Lena Collins Ammons and the late Butler Ammons. Surviving are his mother; a brother, Biscoe Ammons of Sumter; and five sisters, Mrs. R. L. Johnson, Mrs. Henry Grice, Mrs. Horace Lane, Mrs. Kenneth Webster and Miss Doris Ammons, all of Marion.
