Miller Dies Following Heart Attack Here in 1908 Final tribute was to be paid this Wednesday afternoon to Dr. G. C. Miller, 73, former Guttenberg mayor who died suddenly in Riverview hospital here following a heart attack Monday morning. The services were to be held in the Tuecke funeral chapel in Guttenberg with Rev. E. W. Kraemer, pastor of St. John Lutheran church, in charge. Burial was to be in the Guttenberg City cemetery with the following as pallbearers: Jack Gull, Russell Schroeder, Sr., W. B. Kann, C. J. Kann, A. C. Becker and A. J. Lake. Masonic burial rites were to be held at the cemetery. A graduate of the University of Iowa, in dentistry in June, 1908, Dr. Miller came to Guttenberg to establish his practice here on August 27, 1908. He retired from active practice on August 27, 1945, 37 years later. Active in civic affairs, Dr. Miller served as an appointed member of the Town Council from 1925 to 1927, later being elected between 1935 and 1941. In 1941, he was elected Mayor, serving two terms until ill health forced him to retire from political activity in 1945. Dr. Miller also served many years on the Board of Education of the Guttenberg Public schools, as well as being chairman of the original Riverview Hospital board and serving on the cemetery board. For several years he was superintendent of Riverview hospital. He was a member of the DeMolay Consistory in Clinton. Born February 8, 1885, in Updegraf, Iowa, Grover Cleveland Miller was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus D. Miller. On August 2, 1911 he married Margaret A. Ruthop in Guttenberg. Mrs. Miller died January 20, 1948. On April 19, 1953, he married Mollie C. Niemeyer, who survives. In addition to Mrs. Miller, Dr. Miller is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Robert S. Giltrap, of Cedar Rapids, as well as by one granddaughter, Margaret Ruth Giltrap and by a sister, Mrs. Florence Tidball of Brookings, South Dakota.
