Read More	Stratford Courier June 11, 1908 FINAL SUMMONS ARE ANSWERED Clyde Hook Called Home Last Wednesday Afternoon Hook The news of the death of Clyde Hook came over the wire last Wednesday evening as a shock barbed with pain and sorrow. Although it had been generally known that he was suffering with some ailment for some time and especially the last two months, it was thought by none that the end was so near. A couple of weeks ago he went to a sanitarium at Fort Dodge for treatment and it was his intentions to return to his home here on Thursday morning, but on Wednesday morning he complained to the doctor of not feeling well and those in attendance were soon convinced that the end was near. In the afternoon he passed into a sort of a sleep, from which he never awakened, the sudden cause of his death being due to heart failure. The end was as peaceful as the close of a beautiful summer day, when daylight fades into night with increasing loveliness. In the passing away of this young man a shadow of sorrow was cast over our entire community, for his entire life was spent among us and every heart was touched with sympathy for the bereaved mother and relatives. He grew to manhood in Stratford and had won a warm place in the hearts of his fellow men by his kind and gentlemanly ways. Being a musician of note he took an active part in orchestra and band work, being a member of the Stratford Marine band and orchestra, and never failed to do his part when called on. Only the memory of the young man is left, yet how sweet, for after all death is but the slipping off the outer body. Funeral services were held at the residence Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J.L. DeWitt and touching songs were sang by the choir. The floral offerings were many and beautiful, consisting of floral harp and lyre, given by the young friends and associates of the deceased, besides many other beautiful floral designs. At the close of the solemn services all were permitted to look for the last time upon the face of the departed one; then the sad cortege moved on to the Oakwood cemetery, where the remains were interred beside those of his father, one brother and two sisters. Thus closed the early life of one who, being dead, yet speaketh. Grover Clyde Hook was born October 14, 1884 in Stratford, Iowa, the youngest child of George W. and Mary E. Hook. He passed through the Stratford public schools and graduated at the age of seventeen. In his home he was kind and affectionate, having a special care for his mother. Physically he was never very robust. Two years ago this summer he spent in Colorado and a year ago he took a trip east in the hope that the travel and change might give renewed health. For the past twelve months his health gradually declined until his death at about 6 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, June 3rd, 1908. The deceased leaves an only mother, besides relatives and numerous friends to mourn his departure.
