BERGGREN DIES FRIDAY; FUNERAL IS HELD LAST SUNDAY Gustave Adolph Berggren was born in Juenna Berga Parish, Sweden, Oct. 24, 1854 and died at his home southeast of Stratford July 20, 1923, at the age of 68 years, 8 months, 26 days. He came to this country at the age of nine years with his parents locating at Moline, Ills., where they resided for two years, later moving to Hamilton county, Iowa, where he had since made his home. He was united in marriage to Ingre Johnson on July 21, 1881. To this union were born five children — two sons and three daughters, all of whom are living. They are: Clara, who lives at the family home, Elmer, Charley, Amanda (Mrs. Len Johnson), and Emma (Mrs. Anton Sealine) all living in the near vicinity. The aged wife and mother also survives and he leaves besides to mourn his passing, eight grand children, a brother, John P. Berggren, of Stratford, and a sister, Mrs. Ida Johnson of Stanhope, other relatives and a host of friends. He was a kind and loving husband and father who will be greatly missed in the family circle which until now has remained unbroken. He believed n God and considered it a blessed duty and privilege to do what he could to further the cause of Christ and His kingdom on earth. A student of the higher and nobler things of life and of a kind and unassuming nature, he was a true friend and neighbor, who will be missed for what he was. He came here in time to share the responsibility and hardships of the pioneer life and lived to enjoy the fruits thereof. He was laid to rest in South Marion cemetery Sunday afternoon, July 22nd, amidst a gathering of sympathizing friends and neighbors. He came to this country at the age of 9 years and with his parents located at Moline, Ill., where they resided for two years. From there they moved to Hamilton County, Iowa, where he has since made his home. He was united in marriage to Ingre Johnson July 21, 1881. To this union five children were born, two sons and three daughters, all of whom are living. Clara, who lives at home; Elmer and Charley, Amanda (Mrs. Len Johnson) and Emma (Mrs. Anton Sealine), all living in the near vicinity. Besides his companion and children, he leaves to mourn him, eight grandchildren, a brother and sister. John Berggren of Stratford and Mrs. Ida Johnson of Stanhope; other relatives and a host of friends. He was a kind and loving husband and father, who will be greatly missed in the family circle, which until now had remained unbroken. He believed in God and counted it as a blessed duty and privilege to do what he could to further the cause of Christ and his kingdom on Earth. A student of the higher and nobler things of life and of a kind and unassuming nature. He was patient to the end through his long period of affliction, and remained steadfast in the Faith of the Blessed Hope of the Resurrection. He was a true friend and neighbor and came here in time to share the responsibilities and hardships of the pioneer life and lived to enjoy the fruits thereof. The funeral services were held at the home, Sunday afternoon, July 22, conducted by O.J. Allard of Zelzah, California. The Stanhope Male Quartet did the singing. He was laid to rest in the South Marion Cemetery to await the call of the Master, when in the morning of the Resurrection he shall awake the dead from their sleep.
