Mr. Cole was born at Chesterton, Porter county, Indiana on May 25, 1869, the son of David P. and Lucy Cole, being 72 years old at the time of his death. He and his twin sister, Jennie were the second set of three consecutive sets of twins. As a boy of 12 he came to Nebraska with his parents to a homestead in Sherman county, later moving to a farm in Custer county, near Mason City, where he grew to manhood. On June 26, 1895 he was united in marriage to Myrtle C. Williams at Loup City. To this union were born ten children, eight girls and two boys. One daughter died in infancy. All his married life was spent in and about Loup City. Following the death of his wife on December 1, 1938 he resided with his children and other relatives. He is survived by his two sons, Allen P. Cole of Broken Bow and Joe L. Cole, of Clear Lake, Iowa; seven daughters, Mrs. Jennie Richard of Grand Forks, N. D., Mrs. Calla Peterson of Loup City, Mrs. Harriet Marshall of Elm Creek,Mrs. Lois Carroll of Loup City, Mrs. Jessie Kee of Austin, Minn., Mrs. Hattie Collins of Broken Bow and Mrs. Myrtle Hager of Kokomo, Ind.; two brothers, Lewis D. Cole of Mason City and Luman Cole of Branch, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Etta Chapman of Gridley, Cal., and Mrs. Sally King of Star, Ore., and a host of other relatives and friends. His life was one of service dedicated to the care and rearing of his family. During his life he served for many years as deputy sheriff of Sherman county and also as chief of police at Loup City.
