Martin, pastor of the First Methodist Church and the Rev. Dr. C. D. Bradley of Bethune officiated. Burial was in Lakeside Cemetery. Mr. Cushman was born in Georgetown March 31, 1891, a son of the late Fredrick Brookman Cushman and Kate Gillespie Cushman. He was a member of the First Methodist Church, serving on the Board of Trustees. He served as postmaster of the US Post Office in Conway from 1947 until his retirement March 31, 1961. Mr. Cushman was a past member of the Town Council and had served as mayor pro-tem. He was a past member of the school board. He was a member of the Conway Fire Department for 22 years serving as chief from 1944 until 1949. After retirement of this office, he was elected honorary fire chief. Mr. Cushman was a veteran of World War I and was a member of American Legion Post III. He was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award in 1954. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Conway National Bank, a member of the Lions Club, serviving on the Board of Directors. He was also a member of Conway Lodge 65 AFM. Surviving are the widow; Mrs. Elsie McCoy Cushman; a son Harold G. Cushman Jr. of Myrtle Beach; two daughters Mrs Wade Ward of Columbia and Mrs. C. J. Warwick III of West Palm Fla; two brothers Paul G. Cushman and John U. Cushman both of Palm Beach FLA; a sister Mrs. Freddie C. Charlotte of Palm Beach and several grandchildren.
