Description	:	Harold J. "Lefty" Petersen was born August 2, 1923, in rural Danbury, Iowa, the son of Tom A. and Clara (Jansen) Petersen, and died January 25, 1996, at his rural home near Anthon. He was raised with his four brothers on a farm north of Danbury. He loved baseball and in high school became an outstanding pitcher. He graduated from Anthon High School in 1943. "Lefty" Petersen was born August 2, 1923, in rural Danbury, Iowa, the son of Tom A. and Clara (Jansen) Petersen, and died January 25, 1996, at his rural home near Anthon. He was raised with his four brothers on a farm north of Danbury. He loved baseball and in high school became an outstanding pitcher. He graduated from Anthon High School in 1943. On July 16, 1944, he was united in marriage to Mary Iris Peasley at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Midway, Iowa. After serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a radio technician, he returned and played professional baseball in the Yankee Farm System until 1948. The couple farmed near Anthon. Lefty was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where he held several offices. He also was a Soil Conservation commissioner, school board member and Farm Bureau board member. He was a pilot for 25 years and enjoyed fishing and golfing. Survivors include his wife, Mary Iris; a daughter and her husband, Carol and Dan Teckenburg of Deloit, Iowa; two sons, Brad of Anthon and Kenton of Sioux City; seven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; three brothers, Orville, Merlin, and Earl, all of Danbury. Lefty was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Elmer Petersen.
