Description	:	Harold Chesnut Dies Thursday Harold K. Chesnut, former Hiawatha business man and city engineer, died Thursday afternoon, May 3, 1979, at the age of 60. He was a patient in Falls City Community Hospital where he had been a surgery patient since April 29. Mr. Chesnut was born in Brown County March 11, 1919, the son of Charles and Agnes Murphy Chesnut. Chesnut, former Hiawatha business man and city engineer, died Thursday afternoon, May 3, 1979, at the age of 60. He was a patient in Falls City Community Hospital where he had been a surgery patient since April 29. Mr. Chesnut was born in Brown County March 11, 1919, the son of Charles and Agnes Murphy Chesnut. He had lived in this area most of his life. He was married to Mary Shaffer in Hiawatha September 12, 1946, she survives at the home. Chesnut worked for many years as a salesman for International Harvester Co., out of Falls City, Nebr., and Avoca, Iowa. He later joined his father-in-law, Willie Shaffer, in the plumbing business, and later operated and owned it on his own. Mr. Chesnut served as city engineer for Hiawatha from September 1969 until June 1 of 1974. In recent years he had traveled as a salesman for a janitorial supply company. A veteran of World War II, he had served in the Army from 1944 to 1946, and was a life member of Hiawatha VFW Post 5210. He was also a 28-year member of Hiawatha Elks Lodge 1741. Other survivors include three sons, Larry Chesnut and Lyle Chesnut, both of Hiawatha, and Len Chesnut of Atchison; three brothers, Kenneth Chesnut of Hiawatha, Floyd Chesnut of Reserve, and Donald Chesnut of Seattle, Wash., and three grandchildren, Julie, Heidi, and Carrie Chesnut, all of Hiawatha. Twin sisters preceded him in death in infancy. Funeral services are planned for 10:30 Saturday morning, May 5, at Meek Mortuary Chapel. Rev. R. T.
