McDonald born in Madison county, Iowa, on March 29, 1872, departed this life March 25, 1918 at 11:15 a.m. at her home on East Court avenue at the age of 45 years, 11 months and 25 days. Dec. 26, 1893, she was united in wedlock to William B. Laizure and to this union Robert H. of Sioux Falls, S.D.; Loran W. and E. Burnell of this city. At the age of 16 she accepted Christ as her savior and became a member of the First Baptist church of this city, and continued so until the family moved to Sioux Falls where she transferred her membership to the First Baptist church of that place. After residing in South Dakota four years, three years and a half of which were spent in Sioux Falls, she again made Winterset her home, uniting once more with her church at this place, ever being a true and faithful servant of her savior. She was always a loving wife and devoted mother, her highest ambition being that her boys would be brought up as honorable Christian men. Being in poor health for several years, she suffered uncomplainingly, always looking to the Master for help and strength. Her last illness extended over a period of eight weeks, during which time she bore her sufferings patiently, being confined to her bed from the first. Realizing on the morning of her death that she could not live, she bid her loved ones, husband, three sons, mother, sister and Louise, the wife of Robert goodbye, and after asking the boys to always lead Christian lives, she commended her soul to Christ, asking Him to now take her home, after which she became unconscious. She leaves to mourn her loss, besides husband and sons, a mother, Mrs. L. C. McDonald, one sister, Mrs. F. V. Kuntz and three brothers; J. T. of Grand Island, Nebr.; Chas, W. and Jos. A., both of this city. Funeral services were held at the Baptist church Wednesday afternoon at half past two, Rev. Mr. Stewart conducting, with burial at the McDonald cemetery. The Philathea class, of which the deceased was a member, had charge of the singing, and the pall bearers were from the Baraca class, of which Mr. Laizure was a charter member.
