Description	:	Henry was born and raised on a farm in Illinois where he lived until the age of 16 when he came to Mills County, Iowa. He came to Iowa with Milton, Harvey and Newton Summers in Sept 1855. He first joined a company of Home Guards at the outbreak of the Civil War and marched to Sioux City where they were called by an Indian uprising. He enlisted on 24 Oct 1862 at the age of 23. Read More	Henry was born and raised on a farm in Illinois where he lived until the age of 16 when he came to Mills County, Iowa. He came to Iowa with Milton, Harvey and Newton Summers in Sept 1855. Promoted 5th Corporal 1 May 1863, 3rd Corporal 1 Jan 1864, 2nd Corporal 1 May 1864, 1st Corporal 1 Jun 1864, 5th Sergeant 1 Nov 1864, and 4th Sergeant 15 Jul 1865. Harrison mustered out 10 Aug 1865 at New Orleans, Louisiana. After his discharge he returned to Mills County and on 11 Oct 1866 married Hattie Wheeler at her home in Glenwood. They came at once to their farm in White Cloud township until Harrison bought a farm one mile east of Malvern in 1868. They lived there for over 40 years until 1910 when they moved to a home in Malvern. Harrison and Hattie had five (known) children: Lewis W, Cora E (Wearin), Lola (Dyson), Lulu (Duerr), and Hugh (who died in infancy). Harrison retained his farm after moving to Malvern. He was a progressive farmer and was one of the first to advocate improved methods of farming and the breeding of better grades of stock. He was one of the organizers and stockholders of the Mills County Agricultural society. Harrison was one of the movers in the Old Settlers Association of three counties and at one time was president. He was also president of and active in the Mills County Protective Association to hunt down thieves of live stock. He was a member of Milton Summers Post G.A.R. He was also a member of the Silver Urn Lodge A.F. & A.M. of which he was a Past Master. Henry had been in poor health for some years having suffered a partial stroke. He had also lost his sight. Harrison had looked forward to celebrating his birthday with his family but the day before he took a turn for the worse, and died the day after his birthday at the age of 78 years 1 day.
