This contributor finally searched the Fairfield Public Library newspaper microfilm records and found the attribution information: Fairfield Journal Dec. 9, 1918 "A Tribute to Harry SANDS It was with genuine sadness that the message was received in our community last week that Harry SANDS had answered the last roll call. Harry was born and raised on a farm here in our midst near Beckwith. Thirty-six years ago he and his brother Hugh first saw the light of day. When of school age they attended the Beckwith school and after finishing the course in the country schools Harry took a business course in a Burlington college. By his sweet and winning disposition he won many friends "and once a friend, always a friend," was his motto. Although being born a cripple, he was extraordinarily bright and intelligent, and in the school was always found at the head of his class. He was ever ready to lend a helping hand and with those bright mischievous eyes he lightened the load of many of his fellow students by helping them on with their lessons. He seemed to have a business ablility far beyond one of his years. After the death of the mother fifteen years ago the happy family circle was broken up which had always been bound together by the strongest ties of friendship and love. A few years later Harry emigrated west locating in Wyoming, where he conducted a general store in partnership with his brother, Robert, until he fell a victim to that dread malady, flu, with pneumonia following took him in the prime of life. We do not know what church he clung to in recent years, but we do know that in early life he was ever found in his place in the old Bethesda church and his voice ever rang out loud and clear in the songs and praises for his Saviour, for Harry was a fine singer. His sister, Mrs. Etta DUNCAN, and brother, Robert, accompanied the remains. His twin brother, Hugh, lives in Fairfield. As we stood by the open grave of our former friend and school mate our thoughts and sympathy went out to that aged father in his far off California home and his sister, Mrs. Belle BURKHART, of Pembine, Wis., but ..... on account of sickness and duties, were unable to be present at the last sad rites of their son and brother. SANDS was born in Jefferson county, Iowa, May 13, 1882, being 36 years of age at the time of his death. He was the son of Robert and Anna SANDS, and grew to manhood on a farm 4 miles east of this city. For the past twelve years he has been in Wyoming with a brother and sister. He has always been engaged in active business and at the time of his death was in partnership with his brother, Robert, in a general store at Chatham, Wyoming. He is survived by his father Robert C. SANDS, of Los Angeles, California, his sisters, Mrs. Wm. G. BURKHART, of Penbine, Wisconsin, and Mrs. P.C. DUNCAN of Sheridan, Wyoming, and two brothers, Hugh C., of this city, who was his twin, and Robert R. SANDS, of Chatham, Wyoming, at whose home he died. The funeral services were held at the Dayles Funeral Home, on W. Burlington street Wednesday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. C.L. Tennant.
