''''''''''''' Harlan County Journal (Alma, Nebr.), November 4, 1927, p. 4, col. 3 OBITUARY Hattie L. Hill was born in Union, LaPort County, Indiana, May 27, 1845. Her parents moved to Stevenson County, when she was nearly two years old. They lived on a farm until she was thirteen years old, when they moved to Lena, in the same county. She attended public school at that place. She taught two terms of school and was married to Daniel L. Rishel June 21st, 1868. Lived near Lena about two years. Moved on a homestead in Jefferson county, near Alexandria, Nebraska in 1870. Three children were born to them, Frank D. who died in infancy, Ida C. and Grace B. Mr. Rishel died October 2nd, 1873. Mrs. Rishel returned to Illinois with her two little girls where she made her home until March 19th, 1879 when she returned to the homestead. She was married to Michael Karshner, August 7th, 1879. They moved to Harlan County, March 7th, 1886. Three children were born to them, Cora M.; Lewis G.; and Alice M. Lewis died August 17th, 1900. The family came to Alma, January 4th, 1898, where they have made their home. Mr. Karchner died April 13th, 1920. The above was prepared by Mrs. Karschner on or about April 1, 1925 and placed in the hands of her daughter, Mrs. Alice M. Yost against the day when it might be needed. That day came suddenly on October 28, 1927, the day of her summons. Mrs. Karschner had been actively engaged caring for the details of her affairs, seemingly to be enjoyed her usual good health. After returning from a trip down town, had entered her room, when just as the clock struck three, the messenger came to call her into the presence of the King. She was ready, though apparently not expecting his sudden arrival. She had been in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Yost since 1925 who with Mrs. Grace B. Harrison of Stettler Canada, are the only surviving children. There are twenty grandchildren and eight great grand children. She was widely known and greatly loved by a wide circle of friends in Harlan county. She was of a religious turn of mind, and loved the Lord with all her heart and was never happier than when in His service, she had attended the Evangelical church since coming to Alma. About two and one-half years ago, she expressed to her daughter the hope that a former pastor of the Evangelical church, Rev. E. F. Marchand might preach the sermon at her funeral. That request was happily met and Rev. Marchand was able to be present and perform that sacred service. Funeral services were held from the Evangelical church in Alma, at 2:30, Sunday, October 30, and burial was made in the Alma cemetery.
