Moved to Lee Co., Ill., when a young man; he enlisted in Co. F. light artillery where he served for two and one half years. He was married to Philena Bacon, Feb. 25; 1866. To this union four children were born all of whom preceded him in death. He homesteaded in Saline Co., Nebr., in 1868. Later he moved to Fairbury, Nebr., where his wife died. He was married to Mrs. Hattie Rishel Aug. 7th, 1878. To this union four children were born, one died in infancy, Lewis G. died Aug. 17th, 1900. He passed away very peacefully out of this life at his home in Alma, April, 13, 1920 after two weeks of intense suffering. He leaves to mourn his departure a loving wife, one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Holdern, of Iola, Penn., two daughters, Mrs. Cora Deerrring, of Lincoln, Nebr., and Mrs. L. M. Yost, of Alma, and a host of relatives and friends. Peninington, Pastor of the Baptist church. Those out of town attending the funeral of Mr. M. Karschner were Mrs. Cora Deering of Lincoln Nebr. Mr. Eugene Hill of Belvidere Nebr. Mr. A. G. Church and Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Karschner of Holdredge, Mr. and Mrs. Geog. Karschner, Mr. F. Church and Mr. Bert Crandall of Wilcox and Mr. and Mrs. M. Brown of Ragan.
