Helen was born July 15, 1922, and raised in Rio Dell, California, when the lively town was known as "Wildwood." As a young woman, Helen enjoyed working as an office nurse at Scotia Hospital. In high school she met her future husband, Joseph Giacomini, a member of a large dairy-farming family. Helen and Joe were married on August 14, 1943, while Joe served in the Navy during World War II. After the war, they settled on a dairy on the Van Duzen River. Joan was born in 1947, Stephen in 1949, Susan in 1952, and Teresa in 1959. Tragedy struck when Stephen was killed in a farming accident in 1964. Just after losing Stephen, the family was notified that their long-pending application to adopt a child had been accepted. Mark James joined the family in 1965. In 1967, Helen and Joe moved to Marin County to fulfill Joe's dream of becoming an attorney. Helen studied art history at Dominican College, U.C. Berkeley, and San Francisco State, earning Bachelor's degrees in Art History and Italian, and a Master's degree in Art History. She joined the Docent Council of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, where she served on the board, coordinated the School Program, chaired advanced training and was one of the originators of the World Language Program. Throughout her life Helen was active in the lives of her children, grandchildren and friends. She entertained with grace and was a willing participant in any adventure. Helen encouraged everyone she knew to go to college and live their dreams. Helen is survived by her husband of 65 years, Joseph Giacomini, J.D., daughters Joan, Susan and Teresa, son Mark, granddaughters Christina and Isabella, grandsons Kevin, Stephen, Nicolas, Ryan, Kenneth, Brayden and Matteo, her Aunt Adele Turkovich, niece Patricia Canon Togni, loving daughter- and sons-in-law, extended family and many friends.
