Description	:	May 10, 1923 - Carroll Times - A very sad accident occurred two miles northeast of town Thursday afternoon resulting in the death of little Helen, two-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Feld, when she was struck by No. 5, Great Western train. Mr. Feld, his wife and children, had gone over to his brother's Edward Feld, farm to help with planting potatoes, and the children of both families had been playing about the place while the work was progressing. Read More	May 10, 1923 - Carroll Times - A very sad accident occurred two miles northeast of town Thursday afternoon resulting in the death of little Helen, two-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Feld, when she was struck by No. 5, Great Western train. Mr. Feld, his wife and children, had gone over to his brother's Edward Feld, farm to help with planting potatoes, and the children of both families had been playing about the place while the work was progressing. A short time before the accident they had come into the house for spoons to play with in the sand and the mothers supposed they were playing in the sand pile near the house. Mr. Feld had come into the house on an errand, and when he returned to the field, which was across the Great Western tracks, the children evidently followed him. Little Helen was evidently tagging quite a way back of them and when she got to the track there were some section men some little distance down the right-of-way which evidently confused her. She probably thought that one of them was her father and started toward them. It was just at that time that the train approached, when the little girl saw the train she turned and ran away from the train instead of stepping off the track. Whether she fell or whether the engine struck her to the ground is not known, but the wheels cut her left leg and left arm off right up close to the body. The child was rushed to the hospital where everything possible was done for her, but she died about 5 o'clock the same evening. Funeral services were held Saturday at the St. Lawrence church. Anton Wilden, father of Mrs. J.J. Feld, and two sisters, Mrs. Fred Ashpole and Miss Sophia Wilden, of Clinton, Ia., attended the funeral.
