Description	:	Helen Esther Kauer, daughter of James and Cynthia Duncan Davenport was born February 7, 1906 at Hubbell, NE, and passed away October 13, 1993 at Heartland Care Center, Belleville, KS, at the age of 87 years, eight months and five days. She was united in marriage to Fred G. Oeltjen in Geneva in 1927 and to this union three children were born: Jim, J. Fred, and Birdene. Fred Oeltjen passed away on March 30, 1975. She was united in marriage to Elmer Kauer in February, 1978. Elmer passed away on December 12, 1989. She spent most of her life in the Chester community. She was a homemaker and worked with her husband in the upholstery business for many years. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, the Ladies Aide of St. John Lutheran and the E.H.U. of Chester. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands Fred G. Oeltjen in 1975, and Elmer Kauer in 1989; one infant son, Jim; six brothers and three sisters. She is survived by one son, J. Fred Oeltjen and wife Jackie, Lincoln, NE; one daughter, Mrs. Birdene Poppe and husband Wilbert, Mountain Home, Ark.; two step-sons, Clayton Kauer and wife Linda, Belleville, KS, and Idan Kauer and wife Doris, Brighton, CO; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, five step-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Lura Clausen, Oakland, NE; two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Clay Davenport, Chester, and Mrs. Fred Davenport, Plattsmouth, NE; nieces and nephews, other relatives and a host of friends. Services were held Friday, October 15, 1993, 10:30 a.m. at the St. John Lutheran Church, Chester, conducted by Pastor William Larsen. Organist was Mrs. Alvin Poppe, and Mrs. Jack Long and Mrs. Wilbert Crouse sang. Casket bearers were Stuart Sell, Mike Hare, Melvin Davenport, John Oeltjen, David Sell, Jim Oeltjen, Glenn E. Davenport and Tim Poppe. Interment was made at the Chester Cemetery.
