Description	:	Henrick "Henry" Domier was born September 29, 1832 in Lerbach, Hanover State, Germany. His birth name was Johann Heinrich Conrad Daniel Domeyer, from the church records at Lerbach. His parents were Johann Heinrich Domeyer and Johanna Friedericke Henrietta Gaertner. He was raised by his mother as his parents were not married. His birth name was Johann Heinrich Conrad Daniel Domeyer, from the church records at Lerbach. His parents were Johann Heinrich Domeyer and Johanna Friedericke Henrietta Gaertner. He was raised by his mother as his parents were not married. In 1855, Henrick and his half-brother went to Norway, probably to get away from the wars going on in Germany. In Norway they worked in the forest as charcoal burners near Oslo in the area of Fossum. On August 1, 1858, Henrick married Kari Larsdatter Rudningen in the Asker Church near Baerum, Norway. They had four children born in Norway, Henrik William born in 1859, Carl Johann born in 1861, Louise Borgine born in 1864 and Olaf born in 1866. In 1867 the family left Norway for America and arrived in Quebec, Canada on June 19, 1867, then going to Goodhue County, Minnesota near Zumbrota. Kari's brother and wife, Ole Larson Rudningen (Ronningen) and Guri Knutsdatter Loken, had arrived in the area in 1866. Henrick and Kari purchased land in Roscoe Township in 1868. Two more children were born in Goodhue County, Ludvig in 1869 and August in 1872, both baptized at Lands Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. Henrick had learned to speak Norwegian fluently and was known in the area as "Norsk-Tysk" (Norwegian-German). In 1877 the family moved to land about 30 miles south of Zumbrota in High Forest Township in Olmsted County. Their 7th child, Oscar, was born in 1880 and baptized at the East St. Olaf Church near Rock Dell, Minnesota. In December of 1881, Henrick went to Traill County, North Dakota to look for homestead land. His son, Henrik William, had gone to the area in June of 1880 to homestead. Henrick built a 12 by 16 foot log home and in March of 1881 he moved his family from Minnesota to the homestead. On June 21, 1886, Henrick was naturalized and became a citizen of the United States, By 1886, the homestead had been improved and now they were living in a 20 by 16 frame house with a 12 by 10 addition, along with 110 acres cultivated plus fenced pasture and barns and several out buildings. On December 20, 1887, Henrick was granted a patent for his 160-acre homestead land. His children and their families all lived in the Mayville/Portland area. Henrick Domier died April 24, 1902 in Portland, North Dakota at the age of 69. He was buried in the Bruflat Cemetery in Traill County, North Dakota.
