Read More	END OF TRAIL COMES FOR PORTLAND PIONEER John Domier, Resident of Community for 56 Years Dies at Home of Daughter Thursday, May 15, 1936 Following an illness from pneumonia which lasted only 8 days, John Domier, pioneer resident of the Portland community, came to the end of the trail when he died at the home of his daughter in Portland Thursday of last week. At the time of his death Mr. Domier was past 74 years old. Funeral services were held for this well known pioneer Tuesday afternoon from the Bruflat Church with Rev. Rem officiating. Burial was in the Brufalt Cemetery beside the graves of other members of his family who preceded him in death. Born in Christiana, now Oslo, Norway, December 4, 1861, Mr. Domier emigrated to America with his parents when a lad of 7 years. The family settled first in Goodhue and Olmsted counties in Minnesota, where he grew to manhhod. The call of a new country attracted them in 1880 and with his parents he came to Dakota territory. This trip was made in a covered wagon and required 17 days. Fargo was just a trading post, Mr. Domier often recalled when he first visited there. He homesteaded on a piece of land southwest of Portland, which for many years continued to be his home. Mr. Domier was first married to Miss Toneta Engen, of Portland, in 1886. To this union one child was born, Mrs. Clara Olson, now living at Briercrest, Sask., Canada. The first Mrs. Domier died in 1888. In 1890 he was married to Miss Bertha Anderson, also of Portland. They were the parents of nine children, seven of whom survive. Mrs. Domier died in 1912. The children who preceded him in death were Mary and Oscar. Left to mourn his passing are five sons and three daughters. They are Mrs. Ole (Clara) Olson Briercrest, Sask., Carl, living in Minnesota, Alfred of Mayville, Helmer of Marquay, Sask., Mrs. Julia Kvernen and Mrs Olga Anderson, of Portland, Melvin of Rockford, Illinois, and Joe of Portland. He also leaves three brothers, Olaf of Rudyard, Montana, August and Joe of Portland, and a sister, Mrs. Sever (Louise) Haagenson of Potland, besides 19 grandchildren. Note: John was baptized in the Asker Church in Norway. His birth name was Carl Johann Olaf Domeyer, the second child of Johann Heinrich Conrad Daniel Domeyer, born in Germany, and Kari Larsdatter Rudningen of Aal, Buskerud County, Norway. His father went by the name Henrick "Henry" Domier in America. His siblings were William, Louise Haagenson, Olaf, Ludvig, August and Oscar.
