She was born on farm near Graf, NE. one of 11 children, she was baptized as an infant and confirmed Mar. 16, 1920 at Zion Lutheran Church, north of Johnson, NE. At the age of 5 years she moved with her parents to a farm south of Johnson, NE. Henrietta received her education at Washington Rural School District #24. Oct.8, 1930 she married Alex H. Gerdes at Zion Lutheran Church, north of Johnson, Ne. To this union three sons were born, one son, Harlan died in infancy. In 1934... Gerdes at Zion Lutheran Church, north of Johnson, Ne. To this union three sons were born, one son, Harlan died in infancy. In 1934 Alex and Henrietta made their home in Johnson. Henrietta was the first head cook at the Johnson Public School cafeteria, Her husband Alex died March. 18, 1981. In 1992 Henrietta moved to the High Rise Apartments in Auburn, NE. She was an active member of St. Matthew Lutheran since 1941. She died at the Good Samaritan Center in Auburn, Ne. at the age of 92 years, two months and 26 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, eight brothers and two sisters Surviving are 2 sons, Marvin Gerdes and wife Ruth, Virgil Gerdes and wife Muriel. five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Services were held Oct. 24 at St.Matthew Lutheran Church in Johnson, Ne. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
