Walter, Sunday, November 23, took from Adams county one of the early settlers who had spent 57 years in the county, leaving a record of stability and honesty and a memory of a kind and helpful personality, which will long be remembered by relatives and friends. Mr. Walter had been a sufferer for many months, but was patient during the trying period. His death is deeply mourned by many friends as well as the devoted family. Henry A., son of Benjamin and Mary Hedinger Walter was born near Sardis, Monroe County, Ohio, September 14, 1868 and came to Adams County with his parents in 1884. The family first moved to a farm northwest of Brooks and in 1886 they moved to the home where they have lived for 55 years. Mr. Walter, the second child of a family of ten children never married and after the death of his parents continued to reside with two brothers, Frank and Will, who had purchased the homestead. In 1930, Will having married, dissolved partnership and continued to make a home for his brother. During the past summer, Mr. Walter contracted an incurable disease and in spite of medical and tender care, passed away November 23, 1941 at the age of 73 years, 2 months, and 9 days. He is survived by three brothers, Edward R. of Villisca, Frank and Will and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Hossman and Mrs. Louisa Stillinger all of Brooks. Two brothers, Louis and Fred and two sisters, Lena and Ida preceded him in death. Twenty-one nieces and nephews besides a host of other relatives and friends also survive. The deceased was a man of sterling integrity, whose word was bond. He will be greatly missed by the family in the home and by all who knew him. Funeral services were held from the Methodist Church in Brooks, Tuesday, November 25 in charge of by Ona Reep. Music was by Mrs. Ruth Tucker, Mrs. Esty Hofling, Avery Lincoln, and Frank Fuller, accompanied by Mrs. Avery Lincoln. Pall bearers were C. O. Tucker, M. P. Spring, F. M. Brown, J. J. Spring, A. G. Odell, and W. F. Walter. Relatives from a distance present at the funeral were, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schafroth and Raymond Hedinger of Des Moines, Mr. and Mrs. E. R. Walter, Mr. and Mrs. Milton Ankeny, Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Walter and son, Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Bowers all of Villisca; Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Walter, Andy Walter, Jake Walter, and Ben Walter of Lenox, Mrs. Ward Berry and Jean of Arkansas, Mrs. Harvey Jensen of Seymour, Mrs. Emma Bogen of Waterloo.
