By the time of his father's death in 1943, Henry, Jr. had become a Brigadier General, serving in the Pacific arena during WWII. Henry B. Holmes, Sr., died in 1943 and Henry B. Holmes, III, died in 1964. Henry, Jr., was buried in Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery in Lexington, Virginia, on Tuesday, 21 Dec 1976.
