His birth place was near Moravia, Iowa, in Appanoose county. He grew to manhood there and was married Feb. 26, 1893 to Ella McCann, and moved to the farm which has been their home for over 60 years. To this Union 5 children were born, 3 daughters and 2 sons. One son, Odis, passed away Nov. 9, 1930. On Monday, December 7, he passed away in his home after many years of illness. His birth place was near Moravia, Iowa, in Appanoose county. He grew to manhood there and was married Feb. 26, 1893 to Ella McCann, and moved to the farm which has been their home for over 60 years. To this Union 5 children were born, 3 daughters and 2 sons. One son, Odis, passed away Nov. 9, 1930. On Monday, December 7, he passed away in his home after many years of illness. Mr. Foster lived to the age of 85 years, 10 months and one day. Surviving are his wife, Ella; one son, Olin Foster, Centerville R. R. Mrs. Forrest Mericle, Moravia R.R., and Mrs. Claude Wren at. Albia, Iowa, and Mrs. John Eaton at Centerville, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Charles VanDorin, Moravia, and Mrs. Fannie Stickler, Stanford,South Dakota. He was a member of the Fairview Methodist church and attended faithfully as long as his health would permit. Other survivors include 18 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Two grandsons are now in the armed services. They are Private Rex Foster now in Germany ane Pfc. Ralph Mericle in Korea, and also 7 other grandsons served in the armed services. We might well express his life best in the words that "he was a friendly, faithful, singing Christian. Many are the sacrifices he and his wife have made for the church. In his last hours as he approached the Sunset gates of life a song was heard from his lips, even though, he had walked many, many years in the dark valley of sickness His life can only challenge us to be what Christ would have us to be. Funeral services were held at Fairview church, Wednesday, Dec 9, at 11 o'clock. Rev. Lloyd Knouf conducted the service, assisted by Rev, Ray Cox, Moravia. Pall bearers were grandsons: Doyle Mericle,Dwight Mericle, Max Wren, Francis Wren, Forrest Purvis, and Harry Brown. (Harry Brown was married to Garnet Mericle a granddaughter) CARD OF THANKS The family of Henry C. Foster extends grateful thanks to all the relatives, neighbors and friends for a11 their expressions of sympathy,or the beautiful flowers, and other acts of kindness shown during their sorrow.
